The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs (DOI-OIA) has awarded Graduate School USA’s (GSUSA) International Institute a five-year Contract to continue support of the Pacific and Virgin Islands Training Initiatives (PITI-VITI).
PITI-VITI serves the governments of American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the US Virgin Islands by delivering customized training and professional services to support efforts to implement and maintain sound financial management and program performance practices.
The Pacific and Virgin Islands Training Initiatives program was originally established in 1991 through an Interagency Agreement between GSUSA's International Institute and DOI-OIA. The PITI-VITI program assists the insular governments to strengthen financial program performance, achieve fiscal stability, improve leadership and management, and promote economic growth.
Over the next five years, GSUSA will continue to provide institutional support to insular government finance ministers and auditors, with a goal of institutionalizing regional professional organizations and communities of practice. Additionally, the program will deliver the Executive Leadership Development Program, provide training courses, technical and development assistance services, and economic and statistical analysis to improve leadership and management capacity and improve financial management systems and practices.
A skilled and capable workforce is the insular governments’ greatest asset in meeting their development responsibilities and in assisting society to attain the quality of life it desires. Working in partnership with the insular government, and with funding support of the DOI-OIA, the PITI-VITI program aims to improve the capacity and capabilities of the public sector workforce in critical positions and functions.
